How can productivity software be used for teaching and learning?
Productivity software, such as word processing, is a very beneficial tool in the classroom. Students need to learn how to use this type of software, as they will be required to utilize it for assignments at some point in their education. When I was in school, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on the computer. But now that I am in college, most of my work is done via word processing software, specifically Microsoft Word. When I write papers and complete assignments, I usually start out on the computer without even working on a paper draft. That depends, however, on people's various preferences for writing. The point is that students are eventually required to understand how to use productivity software, so it is helpful if they can become familiar with it at a young age.
I agree that students are eventually required to understand how to use productivity software, especially when they enter high school and college. I am like you in the fact that I did not use these programs all too often while I was in school, but now that I am in college I use Microsoft Word all the time. I mentioned to Shannon that my one concern is that students will become too dependent on a few of the advantages to Word, such as the fact that it identifies misspelled words right away for the user. Like I said, I use Microsoft Word for almost all assignments but I am still learning how to use all of the features it provides!
ReplyDeleteGreat point, at some point students will have to use software. Being able to use a word processor is no longer a want but a need. In todays society, almost everyone uses Word, Excel, and/or Power Point software. If students aren't being taught how to utilize software, they will fall behind and it could harm their future educational aspirations.
ReplyDeleteGood post! I know I use word for everything school related and my husband with his business uses Word and Excel. It only makes sense that this software be taught in school.
ReplyDeleteMy students today were using PowerPoint for a Reading Project. They were flying all over the Macbooks they were using with no problem. I was really happy to see that.
ReplyDeleteI was much like you, in that in school I didn't speand much time on the computer. Now in college all of my work is done on a computer which makes life much easier!
